It is a well know Minhag (custom) which the Alter Rebbe received from his Rebbe, the Maggid of Mezritch, which was passed on from his Rebbe, the Ba'al Shem Tov, to recite the chapter of Tehillim corresponding to one's age after the Shachris prayer. On one's birthday however, one begins reciting his or her chapter corresponding to the next year (for example: if fifty years old, recite chapter fifty one).
Binyamin, a Lubavitcher Chosid, handed a Tehilim to his friend Itchik and mentioned the above custom, and on the spot a melody started to flow from them both.
